Abstract:   (28 Views)
Background and Objectives: With the expansion of interdisciplinary approaches to health and spirituality, the examination of Quranic concepts related to physical health and activity from a scientific and physiological perspective has gained increased importance. This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of Quranic teachings concerning physical health, bodily movement, and an active lifestyle, emphasizing the principles of exercise physiology and their practical applications within an Islamic framework.
Methodology:  This narrative-analytical review was conducted by examining credible sources from internal and international databases, prominent Quranic exegeses, and interdisciplinary research related to physical health in the Quran up to Nov 2025. The findings were analyzed in light of current scientific evidence in exercise physiology.
Findings: The Qur’an promotes an active, balanced, and health-oriented lifestyle. Concepts such as strength (Quwwah), patience (Sabr), moderation (E'tedal), movement, and avoidance of lethargy align not only morally but also physiologically with the principles of training and health. Physical acts of worship, prayer (Salah) and pilgrimage (Hajj), exhibit effects similar to structured physical activities. Fasting (Sawm), through its regulation of metabolism and energy balance, overlaps with training principles. Finally, an integrated conceptual framework for combining religious concepts with the objectives of exercise physiology is presented.
Conclusion: The teachings of the Holy Quran show significant congruence with the scientific principles of exercise physiology and can serve as a valuable foundation for designing exercise programs with an Islamic approach and localizing physical health interventions. This article paves the way for developing Islamic-sports approaches in education, research, and health policy-making.
