Background and Objectives: Appropriate therapeutic interventions can significantly help the treatment process for individuals with substance abuse. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of spirituality education on psychological hardiness and existential anxiety among women with substance abuse, referring to addiction treatment centers.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental design, and the statistical population consisted of all women with substance abuse referring to addiction treatment centers in Ahvaz during 2023-2024. 30 individuals were purposively selected and divided into two experimental groups (15 individuals each) and a control group. The subjects in the experimental group received eight 120-minute sessions of spirituality education, while the subjects in the control group received no intervention during that period. Data were collected using psychological hardiness and existential anxiety scales. Data analysis was performed using multivariate analysis of covariance.
Results: The results showed that the mean scores for psychological toughness and existential anxiety in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group during the post-test phase (P<0.001). Also, the most significant effect was related to the psychological toughness variable.
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that spirituality education effectively improves psychological hardiness and existential anxiety in women with substance abuse, referring to addiction treatment centers. the results of this study can assist education specialists and psychotherapists in identifying variables related to the tempting control conditions for substance abuse, allowing them to enhance the mental health and quality of life of both healthy individuals and substance abusers by using non-pharmacological educational methods alongside drug therapy.
