Background and Purpose: Psycho-spiritual health is one of the fundamental concepts in the care and treatment of chronic diseases, including diabetes. The aim of the present study was to design and validate the psycho-spiritual care training package for type 2 diabetes patients.
Materials and Methods: This research was a mixed-methods study (qualitative and quantitative) utilizing content analysis and descriptive-analytical methods. The statistical population included all patients with type 2 diabetes in Yazd City in 2023, 25 of whom were purposefully and conveniently selected based on theoretical saturation and entered into the study. First, the data were collected by searching for related texts and documents, followed by conducting semi-structured interviews with patients with type 2 disease. After selecting the unit of analysis, coding, and content analysis, the psycho-spiritual care training package was extracted and compiled. To validate the findings, the data was reviewed and approved by the panel of experts with two quantitative indices of content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI).
Results: Qualitative findings showed that the content of the psycho-spiritual care training package included 50 propositions. The minimum acceptable value to confirm the validity of the data was 0.60 for the CVR and 0.79 for the CVI. Quantitative findings showed that 17 content propositions had content and form validity and were presented in the form of 15 training sessions for 45 minutes (group or individual).
Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that this package has the necessary validity for educational and therapeutic applications and increases the quality of life of diabetic patients.
