Background and Purpose: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, disabling condition that significantly impacts the quality of life of patients. Spiritual health and self-efficacy can be influential factors in improving outcomes for these individuals. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between spiritual health and self-efficacy in patients with MS.
Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, 230 MS patients who had been referred to the MS Association in Kerman city were selected using the convenience sampling method. The data collection tools included a demographic questionnaire, the MS Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, and the Spiritual Health Questionnaire. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 26) using the independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and one-way analysis of variance.
Results: The results showed that the total score of spiritual health had a direct and significant relationship with the dimensions of self-efficacy, including independence and activity (r = 0.47, P<0.001), concerns and interests (r = 0.53, P<0.001), personal control (r = 0.46, P<0.001), and total self-efficacy (r = 0.61, P<0.001).
Conclusion: Given the strong association between spiritual health and self-efficacy in MS patients, bolstering spiritual health could be a practical approach to enhancing self-efficacy in this population. Incorporation of spiritual dimensions with a particular focus on reinforcing personal control into treatment and support programs may facilitate better disease management for individuals with MS. Moreover, comprehensive care plans for these patients should also consider including spiritual interventions.
